With a large number of volunteers and with the support of the community, an initiative to plant indigenous trees was realised. In a very short time, Fabienne, a Musafiri from Switzerland, came up with the idea and plan to propagate 400 indigenous trees in the Kilifi area.
With the support of a local organisation we had the saplings delivered to four different schools. With the help of the students, where we were directed on the proper way to plant them by the organisation, we managed to plant and instruct the students on local indigenous forestry techniques.
Sadly the delay of the rainy season that year meant 50% of the saplings perished because of drought. Even so, some of them are still growing and will eventually bring shade below which students can admire the beauty of those wise trees and ponder the sustainability of local forests.
