Some of us, being teachers by profession, created a six month relation with the kindergarten and primary school Morning Star in Kilifi. Three days a week we co-taught, in the morning assisting the teachers who needed the support. We included theatre and story-telling workshops in the afternoon. We also hosted some of the classes on board the Musafir, and on the nearby beach, playing games and engaging in educational activities.
We believe that co-teaching is a great way to influence and expose not only the kids but also the teachers to different educational methods. We were also able to create a deep bond, long-lasting friendships and mutual respect.
This cooperation with Morning Star led us to instigate many activities in the school, gain and provide a lot of experience in theatre, photography, music and hand crafts. All the skills that the Musafir community had to offer proved an exhilarating success for all: over 200 pupils, the teachers and ourselves.
