A RADICAL ACT OF CO-CREATION<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n

A once in a lifetime adventure will take us across the Indian Ocean on board the engineless dhow Musafir. We will leave our hub Kenya in January 2021, ending in Padang, Indonesia in January 2022.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Come and join the multicultural crew, you will learn sailing and what is life on board a traditional sailing vessel, experiencing a sustainable way of living. Following our values of Peace, Freedom and Unity, and in order to bridge cultural gaps between people of different places, Musafir developed a travel concept based on providing a co-creation platform for all. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

We experience the co-creation of pop-up<\/em> film festivals in the different harbours that we visit. Partnering with local administrations and supported by professional film makers, photographers and musicians, we engage with local communities producing documentaries about lifestyle, culture and ethic issues. Setting pop-up<\/em> film and music festivals, we deliver special events that engage the communities with whom we share the productions. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The first two Odysseys<\/em> took place in 2019 along the swahili coast between Kenya, Zanzibar and Tanzania. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The journey is divided into five legs, following the favourable winds. You can join in one or multiple legs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Life on Board<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n

You will be welcomed on board the Musafir and shown around the boat to start to get familiar with your new home. You will meet your comrades, get familiar with the rolling and the rhythm of the sea and your surroundings. You will receive your set of sheets and invited to unwind with a cup of coffee, tea or a cold drink. Relax, breathe deeply – you have arrived in a new home. Welcome on board!<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

We have talking circles to express ourselves, share ideas and initiatives that we will co-create along our journey together, and connect to each other. We gather at least once a day, or more often if requested. Pamoja means together in Kiswahili!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We share the different aspects of the Odyssey: organizing the film festival, searching for the stories to film, producing the documentaries, building workshops and other activities that arise from our discussions. Everyone has the chance to try out what they feel, you aren’t fixed on a single project, and you can swap positions at different destinations. We will then head to the town that hosts us to co-create! <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Of course we will also have rest days and time to relax and explore the surroundings individually or in groups.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On board of the Musafir we are all equals, there are no guests or VIPs. We are all crew and as such we share the tasks of keeping us fed and cleaning the boat, kitchen and facilities. We sign up for cooking and cleaning duties. Since we are between 20 to 35 people on board, we will do the tasks in groups and it won’t take a lot of time. It also helps to make every one feel engaged with each other and for the healthy wellbeing of community life.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

There is a lot of free time whilst sailing. It is the perfect chance for discussion in little groups on how to improve at the next destinations, deepening our friendships, getting involved at the helm, listening to music and simply relaxing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

There are moments such as raising the anchor, tacking and the arrival at our destination that will need the support of everyone. We will run a workshop on how to sail the Musafir and assign you a position in those circumstances. We also invite you when sailing to create workshops and share your skills if you have anything specific to offer or participate in.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
