Lamu is an ancient settlement where dhows have been built for generations. This is an important milestone for the Musafir because it was here that the place for the construction was decided.

The Musafir met with many builders, each of whom offered different prices and conditions. All of the encounters were useful in increasing the Musafir’s still scarce knowledge.

Following his instincts, he decided to entrust the building to the young boat builder (fundi) brothers he met in Wasini.

In Lamu, many people talked about a place to the south called Kipini. Located in the estuary of the River Tana, it was referred to as the optimal choice for the procurement of wood for the construction.
